Journalist, Writer Beaten by armed gunmen of the intelligence agency



Journalist, Writer Beaten

Head of the
Benawa Cultural Society, Abdul Ahad Mohammad Yar have beaten by armed gunmen of
the intelligence agency in southern province of Kandahar, Thursday according to
local media.

MohammadYar was attending poetry meeting and was trying to
distribute some papers in favor of the presidential candidate , Dr. Ashraf Ghani
, when some secret police with local dress arrived and beaten him up abused him
verbally as well, in front of the participants.


 





Mr. Yar also contributes to some local and
regional news agencies and media.
He is a prominent journalist, poet and
writer. Mr. Yar has been serving as field zone secretary of SAFMA, the South
Asia Free Media Association, based in southern province of Kandahar.

The
gunmen prevented him taking part in the meeting , then attacked him while
national police officers seen the incident, but did not interfere.

Mr.
Yar as a maimed person has been beaten by his walking sticks until breaking them
into pieces and then kicked him on the spot.

A doctor at local Mirwais
hospital said that he sustained wounds on his face, hands, back and
legs.

Some participants told the Larawbar website that some provincial
authorities, including the governor of Canadian citizen Mr. Toryalai Wessa, and
president Hamid Karzai’s brother Ahmad Wali Karzai are involved in the incident,
as they try to halt the presidential election’s campaign for other candidates
rather than Hamid Karzai.

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Information and
Culture formerly issued a statement in which demanded investigation by the local
authorities

A large number of journalists, writers, poets and some
cultural associations inside and outside Afghanistan raised their deep concern
over the incident, while condemning it, they wanted an urgent enquiry by the
government to the event.

Attacking journalists in the recent years in
Afghanistan particularly in the south has been dramatically
increased.
