Governor, generals applaud newest ANP graduates
KABUL, Afghanistan (Feb. 22) – More than 250 new Afghan National Police (ANP) graduates from across southern Afghanistan were recognised by the governor of Kandahar and prominent military generals during a ceremony in Kandahar Feb. 21.
Brig. Gen. Nasrullah Zarifi, ANP Kandahar-based Regional Training Centre commander, Brig. Gen. Ghulam Ali Wahdat, regional chief of police, Asadullah Khalid, Kandahar governor, and Maj. Gen. Marc Lessard, Regional Command South commander, acknowledged the graduates’ achievements during a joint presentation ceremony. Graduates endured a challenging eight-week training course for entry level police recruits at the Regional Training Centre based in Kandahar.
“I urge you to carry out your duties with absolute integrity – as trained policemen you now have a duty to the people of Afghanistan to uphold the Rule of Law,” said General Zarifi.
After taking the salute from the 259 graduates, General Lessard echoed General Zarifi’s congratulations, saying he was delighted to see such fine men joining the ranks of the qualified ANP.
“As you join the honourable profession of police services, you will add strength and credibility to the growing strength of the Afghanistan Police Corps,” said General Lessard. “This is clearly another important milestone towards bringing greater stability to your beloved country.”
The Afghanistan Basic Police Course provides training in the areas of operational police skills, constitution, law, first law responder responsibilities and firearms and tactics. The programme equips the participants with the necessary skills to effectively respond to the policing needs of society.
Graduates will return to police units in Helmand, Kandahar, Uruzgan and Zabul.
