District center, ANP attacked in Nangarhar
Suicide bomber kills, injures local civilians in Nangarhar District Center
KABUL, Afghanistan (Apr. 29) – Alliance forces are assisting in the aftermath of an insurgent attack on Afghan National Police (ANP) and civilians at the Kowhai District Center, Nangarhar province.
Initial reports indicate that a suicide bomber murdered and injured civilians in the district centre, while a number of ANP were killed and wounded in their station nearby with small arms and rocket-propelled grenades.
“If the goal of the insurgents was to target ISAF troops operating in the area, they failed,” said Brigadier General Carlos Branco, ISAF spokesperson. “If the insurgents’ goal was to injure and kill Afghan citizens, they succeeded. This only shows the insurgents’ utter disregard for the life of the Afghan people.
“Are thoughts are with the victims of this heinous attack and our focus now is on assisting in the medical treatment and evacuation of the casualties.”
